How To Defeat A Witch In Minecraft

For the mob in Minecraft Dungeons, see MCD:Witch.

A witch is a hostile mob that uses harmful splash potions equally ranged weapons and positive potions on itself.

Spawning [ ]

Witches spawn in the darkness, in swamp huts, during raids and when lightning strikes villagers.

A witch may spawn in the Overworld above opaque blocks at a lite level of 0, in all biomes except mushroom fields and deep dark.

The rooftop and scale of a swamp hut, besides every bit the spawning zone. The spawn area matches the roof, plus the porch.

Every swamp hut spawns a witch and a cat inside during world generation which never despawn.

Shows the side of a swamp hut, too shows the calibration of it and proper height.

Otherwise, simply witches spawn in the 7×7×9 (x×y×z) volume that is the hut. This is the size of the roof and one block over the porch, from one level beneath the floor of the hut to two blocks to a higher place the roof.

Witches ever spawn equally function of raids starting from moving ridge 4 in Bedrock Edition or moving ridge 3 or four in Java Edition depending on the globe difficulty.

A villager transforms into a witch when lightning strikes inside four blocks. The witch transformed from a villager will not despawn nor can exist changed back into a villager. This witch attacks the player with its potions fifty-fifty if the player traded with it before.

Drops [ ]

A witch drops between one to three feel orbs if killed by a role player or tamed wolf. Witches accept the largest boodle table of any creature, making one to three drops of zero to two items each, for a maximum of six items total. A witch may drop sticks, drinking glass bottles, glowstone dust, redstone dust, spider eyes or sugar. The likelihood of a witch to drib sticks is 25%, whilst the remaining items have a probability of 12.five%. The odds of a witch dropping the maximum amount of items possible without a Looting enchantment are 1 in 81 (1.2%). Also, each level of Looting increases the maximum items dropped by one for each of the one to 3 drops, leading to a maximum of 5 items per drop and a maximum of xv items total. No Annexation averages ii items per impale, Looting I averages three, Annexation II averages four and Annexation III averages five. Additionally, if a witch is killed while drinking a potion, the potion has a viii.5% chance of dropping, increased by 1% for every level of Looting. A witch drops i of the post-obit:

  • Potion of Healing
  • Potion of Fire Resistance
  • Potion of Swiftness
  • Potion of Water Breathing

Beliefs [ ]

Witches are 85% resistant to some magical sources: poison, instant damage, evoker fangs and the Thorns enchantment. In Bedrock Edition, witches are immune to poison, fatal poison and to their own thrown harming potions.

A witch looks like a villager but cannot open doors or use cauldrons, instead, the witch pursues a player within xvi blocks and uses potions of the first level in combat, throwing splash potions offensively and drinking potions defensively. These potions are the same as ones obtainable through brewing, with the same elapsing. A witch has an space stock of potions, even when transformed from a villager or non having had any potions equipped in their inventory. Each potion chosen past the witch depends on the circumstance and is thrown within ten blocks and in a three-2d interval.

A witch may cull to equip and beverage a potion each 0.05 second if information technology is not already drinking a potion. Drinking the potion takes 1.6 seconds[1] and slows down its moving speed. It does not attack during this time.

As effect, witches are hard to kill via suffocation or cacti due to their frequent utilise of healing potions, cannot drown underwater and require a long fourth dimension to die in lava or fire.

The witch's regal particles.

Witches have a 1.v% chance every 2d to spawn x to 44 ornamental particles above their heads, named "witch" in Java Edition or "witchspell" in Bedrock Edition and regal in color.

In Java Edition, witches that participate in a raid seek out illagers and ravagers and throw splash potions of Regeneration of 45 seconds or Instant Wellness if they have 4 ♥ ♥ or less. In Bedrock Edition, witches participating in a raid practise not heal other illagers, but still attack the player, atomic number 26 golems and snowfall golems. If the raiders impale all the villagers in a hamlet, witches bound in commemoration to their victory. In Java Edition, any witch tin join a patrol if sufficiently nigh a patrol captain. These witches are hostile towards villagers, wandering traders and iron golems if in their sight.

Witches do not retaliate when attacked by evoker fangs, illagers or harming potions from other witches in Java Edition. Instead, they drink a beneficial potion. Witches throw negative splash potions at any mob that attacks information technology Bedrock Edition, including other witches and illagers.

  • A witch fits through two block tall gaps, despite being taller than 2 blocks with its hat.
  • When drinking a potion, a witch'due south nose lifts and points forwards. A witch'southward olfactory organ slightly wiggles when idle.
  • Witches take small mouths hidden under their noses. During their potion-drinking animation, this rima oris becomes visible from the side.

    • The same hat layer is as well nowadays in the vindicator and evoker's texture files, where it is as well unused.
    • These hat models also used to exist in the nitwit, librarian and priest's textures before the Village and Pillage Update.
  • In the Village and Pillage update artwork banner, the witch in the picture has its arms unfolded like a pillager, despite this beingness impossible in-game.
  • In Java Edition, witches can ride any mob via commands, including boss mobs. In Bedrock Edition, witches cannot ride ravagers, as the witch is not considered an illager.
    • Like other villager-like mobs, witches don't stick their legs frontwards when riding a minecart, a gunkhole or some other mob. Their legs seem to sink in these entities visually.
  • Witches despawn instantly in peaceful difficulty.
